Visibility is fundamental to safe driving. Windshield blades should be replaced as soon as you notice a difference in driving visibility, or every six months, as a general rule of thumb.
Signs to look for include:
- Skipping
- Streaking
- Splitting
- Squeaking
- Broken frames
- Metal corrosion
- Visible cracks, tears and missing pieces
- Unsecured or hardened squeegee

Many environmental factors take a toll on your wiper blades, including airborne debris, moisture, oil, sun and extreme weather conditions. Evaluate both the rubber squeegee and metal frames to avoid common problems.
To extend the life of your wiper blades, gently wipe the rubber squeegee with a damp paper towel to remove debris and oil every once in awhile. Additionally, never use your wipers to de-ice your windshield. Pulling your wiper blades away from the windshield during winter months prevents ice build up, which will also extend the life of your wiper blades.
