But here at Morganton Honda, you’re protected from scams like those. Not only are we accountable by North Carolina state law, but our commitment to providing our customers with reliable, quality used vehicles is written into our values. So before you start scrolling online through our used inventory, we would love to address your questions about used cars. Below we’ve listed FAQ questions that our customers have asked us, but if you don’t see your question, give us a call.

What's the difference between used and CPO?

In short, stricter standards. Certified Pre-Owned, or CPO, are used vehicles that have earned their title through meeting the brand standards outlined by the manufacturer. Rigorous testing and inspections are a given (for example, a HondaTrue vehicle receives a meticulous 182-point inspection), and any issues are repaired in our premier service center. CPO models must be less than six years old and under the mileage limits in order to receive the stamp of approval.

What should I watch out for in a used car?

No matter who you’re considering buying from (dealers and private sellers alike), inspect the exterior for extensive damage. Dings and dents will be common in a used car, so look for big-ticket damages that will be expensive to repair. Next, step inside to inspect the fabric on the seats for smells or stains, check all the controls and buttons and test the A/C. On your test drive, play around with cruise control and handling, and listen for mechanical issues like squealing brakes. We recommend bringing the car to a mechanic before purchasing if you decide to go with a private seller, and always request a CARFAX history report as well.

How do I know that I'm getting a good deal?

It’s all in the research. Once you’ve decided on the make and model that work best for you, look up your car on KBB.com. Kelley Blue Book® will determine the car’s value by comparing it to others that have sold in the area, so you have a little negotiating power with the seller. Our online trade-in form can also allow you to value your trade if you’d like to sell your current vehicle and place the amount towards your used car.

Why should I buy from a dealership?

Well, why shouldn’t you? Morganton Honda offers a level of protection and peace of mind that a private seller can’t provide. We can guarantee the quality of the vehicles we sell, and we’re held accountable by state law to truthfully reveal the condition of the car. Buying used doesn’t have to be dicey. A dealer can also offer special financing (so you don’t have to pay in cash and you can repair your credit score), and you can take advantage of whys buys and used car specials.

What are the benefits of buying a used car?

Buying a used car means you’re receiving the same quality at an affordable price. A new car will be hit by severe depreciation the first year of ownership, but your used car will have already gone through the biggest hurdle. Needs parts for your used car? They’re typically cheaper and your options will be much wider. When buying new, you’ll be confined to a single year’s tech, safety and amenities, but when you choose to purchase used, several years of options are now at your disposal.
