Honda begins pilot of Smart Intersection Technology in Marysville, OH

Honda is a brand committed to pushing limits and innovating, and this is especially true when it comes to safety. Recently, Honda unveiled one of its most ambitious projects yet, one which aims to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety at intersections. Partnering with the city of Marysville, OH, Honda is piloting its Smart Intersection technology, a branch of its Vehicle to Everything communication program, and it promises to be one of the brand's most ambitious endeavors to date.

The Honda Smart Intersection Technology program functions by mounting cameras to the traffic signals at four-way intersections around the Marysville area. These vehicles are constantly scanning the intersections for oncoming vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrian. These cameras utilize innovative technology to actually identify oncoming objects, including emergency vehicles. Then as a compatible vehicle approaches the intersection, those cameras send a signal to the vehicle, which then decodes that signal to alert the driver to any oncoming objects that will be entering the intersection, even if they're not within the driver's line of site.

If this pilot program prove successful, the Honda Smart Intersection Technology system could very well revolutionize road safety. But of course, this is just one of many outstanding new technologies that Honda is experimenting with. So, if you'd like to see some of the safety innovations that are already on the market with our new Honda models, feel free to swing by Morganton Honda for a test drive today!
